All RockStar Quarters Sailors have access to Richard's Rooftop, a private members club and a more secluded (and quieter) spot for sunbathing and cocktails. Rockstar guests will also be welcomed with a full bar and cocktail kit in their minibars. Scarlet Lady sails from Miami with itineraries to Mexico and throughout the Caribbean, including stops at Virgin’s private beach club in Bimini. Resilient Lady‘s port of call will be in Athens, with itineraries around the Greek Islands. Although Virgin Voyages' ships allowed anyone 18 or older to sail, the drinking age on board is 21 years when ships are docked in the U.S. In international waters and in places like Europe, where the drinking age is 18, the onboard drinking age is 18. The Band — an adjustable cord bracelet with a scannable device attached — is your room key and charge "card" when you sail. It's also used to scan you on and off the ship when you go ashore.

A triangular-with-rounded-edges odd-shaped white table serves as a desk and vanity in most standard cabins, with a round vegan leather stool beneath. Kick back and enjoy the Suite life with uninterrupted sea views (really...even the bathroom has an ocean view). While some menus had special dishes for an additional fee, most of the food on board — and everything I ate — was included in the $5,900 ticket price. Though the Scarlet Lady is far from finished, renderings of what the ship will look like once complete are promising. For the ship's transatlantic crossing and all subsequent cruises from Barcelona, you'll need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date you return back to the U.S. If you're a U.S. citizen on one of Scarlet Lady's round-trip Miami sailings, you'll need a current passport or an official copy of your birth certificate and a driver's license or other government-issued photo ID to sail. On the other hand, if working out is core to your vacation ideals, Scarlet Lady offers plenty of options, but the fitness areas aren't connected the way you think they might be, so look at a deck plan before you throw on your sneakers.

The entertainment is top notch, but it's more experimental and modern than the traditional song-and-dance cruise ship shows. Among the RockStar Quarters, the Seriously Suite is the most common suite type on board. It features a European king bed facing the floor-to-ceiling glass balcony doors, tall closet wardrobes, a brass vanity, a shelving unit with a turntable and bar setup and a window behind the bed looking into the extra-large shower. The bathroom is spacious with a marble tile look, and the terrace is only slightly larger than a standard one, with the same furnishings. The top decks (15 – 17) are the places to head for fitness, fun in the sun or a combination of both.
As cruise operators ramp up business again in the wake of pandemic shutdowns and quarantines, many of them are trying to lure customers back with as many all-inclusive goodies as possible. Virgin invested in Climeon technology, which converts extra and waste heat into electricity. In the case of cruise ships, engineers can convert the water used to cool the engines, with that heat differential, to create clean energy. "So we can create almost one megawatt of power on board just by taking the heat that's generated from the engine cooling water," McAlpin says. Tea service does cost extra – more if you want Champagne with your goodies – and I suggest you make it your lunch because it's way too much food for a snack. You get a full three-tiered tray with scones, finger sandwiches and too many sweets for one person to consume in one sitting. It works well when the venue is relatively quiet; you don't have to queue for food or worry about food sitting around or contaminated tongs. On the other hand, when it's busy and you just want a quick meal before your tour, it can be hard to flag down a server and your food can take 20 minutes to arrive.
Sea Terraces share the layout of the other standard cabins, but the placement of the sleeping and living areas alternates in adjacent rooms. Some cabins have the bed by the bathroom and the desk by the balcony, while the rooms on either side will have the reverse layout, with the bed by the balcony and the desk by the bathroom. Balcony cabins are designated either regular, extra-large, centrally located or limited-view, and your cruise fare will change depending on which you choose.
While I didn't book a suite, I got access to the exclusive lounge during a seven-day Mediterranean cruise on Virgin Voyages' Valiant Lady in August 2023. Scarlet Lady sails from Miami with itineraries to Mexico and throughout the Caribbean, including stops at Virgin's private beach club in Bimini. After being christened in England, Valiant Lady is sailing Mediterranean itineraries out of Barcelona. Resilient Lady's port of call will be in Athens, with itineraries around the Greek Islands.
The company has banned single-use plastics on-board its ships—including straws, bottled water, other beverage bottles, condiment packets, shopping bags, food packaging, stirrers, and to-go coffee and tea cups. Instead, the company emphasizes the use of recyclable and reusable materials across the ship. While onboard, guests are provided with access to complimentary filtered still and sparkling water in their cabins, and there are dozens of refilling stations on each deck.
